The Merry Go Round Museum "Holiday Workshop"

On Sunday, December 5th, 2010, The Merry Go Round Museum presented the "Make Learning Merry" Family Event. Children ages 6-12 were invited to participate in a "Secret Shop" where they were able to create three separate gifts for family members with the assistance of the volunteers at the Merry Go Round Museum. While the children created their hand crafted presents, the adults were treated to a guided tour of the museum.

The tour included the history of the wide variety of carousel animals and explained the differences in their craftsmanship and artistic styles. During the tour visitors were able to watch the craftsmen at the museum carving the intricate details into the carousel horses.

After the children had finished crafting and wrapping their gifts, the adults were allowed to join them for fresh baked cookies and punch while the museum staff read holiday stories. Following the stories, adults and children alike were invited to participate in a variety of games designed to appeal to all ages.

A beautiful, handcrafted Doll House was raffled and the winner announced at the workshop. The day's events were brought to a close with all guests being permitted to ride on the museum's carousel, much to the joy of all in attendance.
